STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN'S
From hundreds of photos of Stevie, the conclusion could be reached that he wore this this hatband more often than any other accessory in his career. Necklaces, rings, bracelets, watches and pins came and went fairly quickly, but this hatband appears in various photos from 1983 to at least 1988, at which point his hats usually featured the black satin band.
This silver hatband appears on two album covers (Couldn't Stand the Weather and Live Alive), and in countless photos including at the 1984 Grammy Awards, the 1984 CBS Records convention with Jeff Beck, the 1985 Saturday Night Live TV appearance with Jimmie Vaughan and Mick Jagger, the 1986 Farm Aid concert, and the 1988 New Orleans Jazz Fest.
I have not been able to determine whether Stevie considered this hatband special, or whether he just liked the look. The closeup scan was not easy - the band does not have jagged edges of course. I scanned the area where the two sliver loops are, which would have been on the left side as Stevie wore it. The size adjusts just by sliding the ends through the two loops.
Where is it now? Acquired by the president of the SRV Fan Club in April 1998. It is NOT for sale. It will be displayed on the fan club tours and at other appropriate events.
Where can I get a similar one? I have no idea. Searching for silver hatbands on the web will probably turn something up.
